Sprinkler System Installation in Oklahoma can be complicated.   There are many details that very important to ensure that a new Sprinkler System be durable and dependable for many years to come.  Attention to detail makes all the difference when installing a Sprinkler System.  Many times, So-Called, ” Fly By Night Sprinkler Companies,”  cut lots of corners to save money.  Low price should not be the determining factor for having a Sprinkler System installed.  A cheap Sprinkler System soon becomes very expensive if it has to be fixed all the time or won’t work at all.

Two things you should require on any Sprinkler System:

1.  Make shure PRIMER  is used along with PVC Glue when the Sprinkler Pipe is put together.  Primer helps the glue to bond to the PVC pipe.  This ensures that all the pressurized pipe connections won’t leak over time.  I have seen Sprinkler Systems that were no more than a year old that leaked everywhere.

2.  Make shure the connection for the Sprinkler System at the water meter is done with a, “compression T.”  This ensures that no leaks will occur over time at this connection.  The Sprinkler Connection at the water meter is highly stressed every time the Sprinkler System is turned on.  A connection with Glue and Primer will not hold up to the stress over time.  This is why a Compression T must be used.

The above two points are just a few of the details that need to be considered when installing a Lawn Sprinkler System.

For twenty years, CMG has been paying close attention to the important details necessary to ensuring the Installation of Sprinkler Systems that are dependable and will last.

My name is Blane Callen. I have owned and operated CMG Sprinklers and Drains since 1993.  I take great pride in my work.  The Letters “CMG” stand for the first letter of the first name of each of my children.  ( Chance, Melissa, Garrett )  = CMG

I have amassed a great deal of experience designing and installing Sprinkler Systems Repairing Sprinkler Systems, and designing and installing Drainage SystemsIn the past 19 years, I have made mistakes, but I have learned from them.  As a result I get calls, from time to time,  from other Sprinkler and Drainage companies that have run into a problem that they can’t handle.  I am always glad to help.

I usually don’t take money up front for Sprinkler Installation, Sprinkler Repair, or  French Drain Installation.  I prefer that the customer pay me when the job.  In a few cases on very large jobs I request a draw or outlay for parts.  The parts are delivered from my supplier to the address where the job is being done and equal the amount of the draw.  The parts stay on the premises until they are installed.

Sprinkler Installation —  Typically Sprinkler Systems have two types of Sprinkler Heads.  You have Rotor Sprinkler Heads and Pop – Up Sprinkler Heads.

These two types of Sprinkler Heads should not be in the same Sprinkler Zone Together.  The reason is that they water at different rates.  The Pop-Up Sprinkler Head is a Continuous Spray Head.  It does not move or rotate.  It covers a small area and puts a lot of water down fast.  The Rotor Sprinkler Heads cover a much larger area and spray back and forth from left to right.  They take a greater amount of time to completely water their designed area.  If Pop-Ups and Rotor Sprinkler Heads are put in the same zone together and run at the same time, by the time the Rotor Sprinkler Heads are finished,  the area covered by the Pop-Up Sprinkler Heads will be Flooded.  This can kill whatever the Pop-Up Sprinkler Head is intended to water.

Many times ” Fly – By – Night Sprinkler Companies”  or, ” DIY Home owners who don’t know any better,” Put Rotor Sprinkler Heads and Pop-Up Sprinkler Heads in the same zone.

IT IS A BIG MISTAKE!

Just what is a “French Drain?”  Many times people incorrectly

A French Drain can protect your foundation!

use the phrase, “French Drain,”  to apply to many different types of Drains that could be used in a Drainage System.  The term is widely used and many times incorrectly connected to “Surface Drains,” or “Channel Drains.”

A Surface Drain has a grate that sits on top of a basin.  The basin is underground.  A Drain Pipe is connected underground to an outlet on the Drain BasinStorm-Water Drains through the grate into the Drain Basin.  Once in the Drain Basin, water travels out of the basin through a Drain Pipe.  The Storm-Water continues downhill in an underground Drain Pipe to an exit point.

THIS IS NOT A FRENCH DRAIN!

A Surface Drain may come in many different shapes or sizes.  The Drain Grate may be round or square.  Here is a picture of a common Surface Drain.

A Channel Drainis a type of Surface Drain and many times is installed in concrete across sidewalks or driveways.

A French Drain is completely different from a Surface Drain.  A basic French Drain consists of a Perforated Drain Pipe in the bottom of a trench.  The Drain Pipe should have a neoprene sock around the Perforated Drain Pipe.   This is to ensure that the Drain Pipe does not become clogged.

The dirt that was taken out to make the trench is hauled away.  It is replaced by some type of small stone or gravel depending on what is desired or available.  I prefer crushed 1 inch lime stone.  It is the most economical option in my area.  Pea Gravel or some other type of small stone can work just as well.    The lime-stone or gravel is placed in the trench on top of the perforated Drain Pipe and filled all the way to the surface (ground level).   In some cases where the French Drain needs to be deep or is being placed in sandy soil, a special trench liner must be placed in the trench before the perforated Drain Pipe or the Gravel are installed.  This helps maintain the integrity of the trench over time.  It also increases the cost of the French Drain and the amount of time to install it.  I install a trench liner in a French Drain about 20% of the time.  Most of the time a liner in not needed.

French Drain March 2011
A French Drain is designed to handle a large volume of water and cover a large area. The Drain is anyplace the trench goes. It has many applications and can be used in many situations.  It can be installed by itself or incorporated into a Drainage Systemwith Surface Drains or Gutter Down-Spouts connected to it.
The main downfall of a French Drain is that they, for the most part aren’t very pretty.  They don’t look very nice in a yard once they are completed.
Depending on the area the French Drain is installed and the type of grass around the French Drain, will dictate whether grass grows over the lime stone.  Grass can grow up and through the gravel in the French Drain over time eventually covering the gravel.  This is Ok.  It won’t have a measurable effect on the performance of the drain.
DONT COVER THE GRAVEL IN THE FRENCH DRAIN WITH DIRT.  THE FRENCH DRAIN WON’T WORK IF THE TRENCH IS CLOGGED WITH DIRT.  DON’T EVEN INSTALL IT IF YOU ARE GOING TO COVER IT UP WITH DIRT.
DECORATIVE STONE CAN BE USED TO COVER A FRENCH DRAIN AND THEY LOOK GREAT AND LAST A LIFETIME.

For Central Oklahoma Residents who already have a Sprinkler System, I recommend a RAIN/FREEZ SENSOR.  This is a great way to ensure that the sprinkler system gets truned off when there is no one available to turn it off.  If you are away on vacation for example, the RAIN/FREEZE SENSOR will turn off the sprinkler system after a heavy thunderstorm when it is too wet to water.  The RAIN/FREEZE SENSOR will turn the sprinkler system back on when it is dry enough to water again.  It will do the same thing for your sprinkler system it it gets too cold or starts to snow.

Broken Sprinkler Head

Wow, we have a new twist on sprinkler repair.  Broken sprinkler pipes occur for all kinds of reasons.  Sprinkler Pipes break because:  1.  They freeze (usually due to poor installation)  2.  Cars or trucks drive up in yards and break them.  3.  They blow apart under pressure (usually because primer was not used when the pipes were glued together).

This year we have had a lot of calls to fix leaking or broken sprinkler pipesdue to Earth Quake Damage.  I would expect that in California, but Oklahoma?  Since 1993 CMG has fixed sprinkler systems for all kinds of reasons.  Earthquake damage is something new.

Sprinkler Installation has been a major focus for us since 1993.  Since that time CMG has successfully completed over 5000 sprinkler systems, drainage systems, and sprinkler repairs.

Over the years through trial and error, we have adopted many practices and procedures that insure the quality and longevity of the sprinkler systems that we install.  These “extras” that  are put into each Sprinkler System ensure that it will last and perform for years to come.  Just a few examples are:  Installing a master valve so the sprinkler pipes can drain underground automatically when the sprinklers aren’t running,  Using “hot glue, ” not clear pvc cement so the sprinkler pipes won’t leak 5 years down the road, and finally using a ” compression T” to connect into your water line.  This ensures that the connection wont break or leak.

My name is Blane Callen.  I have owned and operated CMG Sprinklers and Drainssince 1993.

I usually don’t take money up front for Sprinkler Installation, Sprinkler Repair, or Drain Installation.  I prefer that the customer pay me when the job is complete and they are happy with the work.  In a few cases on very large jobs I request a draw or outlay for parts.  The parts are delivered from my supplier to the address where the job is being done and equal the amount of the draw.  The parts stay on the premises until they are installed.

Just what is a “French Drain?”  Many times people incorrectly

use the phrase, “French Drain,”  to apply to many different types of Drains that could be used in a Drainage System.  The term is widely used and many times incorrectly connected to “Surface Drains,” or “Channel Drains.”

A Surface Drain has a grate that sits on top of a basin.  The basin is underground.  A Drain Pipe is connected underground to an outlet on the Drain Basin Storm-Water Drains through the grate into the Drain Basin.

Surface Drain and Drain Pipe

A Channel Drain is a type of Surface Drain and many times is installed in concrete across sidewalks or driveways.

I install a trench liner in a French Drainabout 20% of the time.  Most of the time a liner in not needed.

French Drain March 2011
A French Drain is designed to handle a large volume of water and cover a large area. The Drain is anyplace the trench goes. It has many applications and can be used in many situations.  It can be installed by itself or incorporated into a Drainage System with Surface Drains or Gutter Down-Spouts connected to it.

Hopefully 2012 wont be as hot as 2011.  Record heat for Central Oklahoma caused the death of trees, shrubs, and grass all over the state.  A new Lawn Irrigation System installed by CMG  can help solve these problems. Sprinkler Systems water much faster and more efficiently than dragging hoses around all day to water your yard.

In-Line Sprinkler Pipe Drain

Our Sprinkler Systems areSelf-Draing.   The Sprinkler Pipes  Drain underground when the Irrigation System is turned off.   Nothing needs to be done to prepare your Irrigation System for winter except turn it off.  There is no water left in the Sprinkler Pipes to Freeze.

Just like a home or a car, a Sprinkler System requires repair or adjustment from time to time.  We at CMG, take great pride in the Sprinkler Repair Services that we provide.  In almost 18 years of service, CMG has solved virtually every Sprinkler Repair Problem possible.  We solve Sprinkler Repair Problemsthat other companies can’t handle.  If you live in Oklahoma Cityand have Broken Sprinkler Heads, or if you live in Norman and have Leaking Sprinkler Valves, or if you live in Edmond and your Sprinkler Controller quit working, give us a call or send us an e-mail. 405 – 226-0629 cmgsprinklers@hotmail.com

Lawn Sprinkler Repair is one of our business focuses.   We can help with:

3. Leaking Sprinkler Pipes

4.  Shorted or disconnected valve wires

6. Broken Sprinkler Heads

7.  Sprinkler Head Adjustment

The above are the most common problems that we deal with.

CMG Sprinklers and Drains can help if you need to re-design your sprinkler system. If for example you are adding a swimming pool in your back yard, we can move the sprinkler headsand sprinkler pipes to fit the new dimensions of your yard. We can redesign or add-on to sprinkler systemswhere the home owners needs change.

Sprinkler Repair is a central focus for CMG Sprinklers and Drains.  Just like any car or home, a lawn sprinkler system must be updated and maintained.  Typically people wait till spring to get the kinks worked out of their sprinkler system.

I can tell you this, DON’T WAIT TILL MARCH TO GET YOUR SPRINKLER SYSTEM IN SHAPE.  BY APRIL THERE WILL BE A  FLOOD OF PEOPLE TRYING TO GET BROKEN SPRINKLER HEADS FIXED OR NEW SPRINKLER CONTROLLERS INSTALLED OR LEAKING BACK-FLOW VALVES REPLACED.  THIS YEAR CMG SPRINKLER AND DRAIN WILL INCREASE OUR SPRINKLER REPAIR STAFF.  LAST YEAR OUR WAITING LIST WAS 4-5 WEEKS BEFORE WE COULD GET TO THE CUSTOMER.  WITH THAT BEING SAID, CMG WILL NOT COMPROMISE ON THE QUALITY OF OUR WORK TO GET TO THE NEXT CUSTOMER ON THE LIST.  LAST YEAR WE LOST BUSINESS BECAUSE WE COULD NOT GET TO EVERYONE IN A TIMELY MANOR.  HOWEVER, EVERY CUSTOMER WE DID WORK FOR WAS HAPPY AND SATISFIED WITH THE JOB WE DID.

CONSIDER GETTING YOUR SPRINKLER REPAIR WORK DONE ANY TIME OTHER THAN THE SPRING.  FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE NO CHOICE AND MUST HAVE WORK DONE IN THE SPRING, SCHEDULE AS EARLY AS YOU CAN.

OUR SPRINKLER REPAIR WORK IS TOP QUALITY AND OUR PRICES ARE FAIR.  IT IS OUR GOAL TO GET TO CUSTOMERS QUICKLY IN MARCH AND APRIL, WHILE MAINTAINING OUR QUALITY OF WORK.

The Sprinkler System Problems listed above are the most common Sprinkler Problems that we deal with.

CMG Sprinklers and Drains can help if you need to re-design your Sprinkler System.  If for example you are adding a swimming pool in your back yard, we can move the Sprinkler Heads and Sprinkler Pipesto fit the new dimensions of your yard.  We can redesign or add-on to sprinkler systems where the home owners needs change.

Like our name says, CMG Sprinklers and Drainsalso installs New Lawn Sprinkler Systems and Drainage Systems for folks who live in Central Oklahoma.
